Vasselheim is basically the Vatican, Mecca, Jerusalem, and Mahabodhi all rolled into one. During the meeting, it’s decided that the Horn is unsafe in Emon and Emon is unsafe as long as it’s there and that it should be brought across the sea to the West to the city of Vasselheim. The mention of the Briarwoods sends Percy into what looks like a silent panic attack that everyone else misses. After some investigations, the party learned that a whole mess of 'stitch monsters' have been attacking the mines from deeper beneath, and after killing one (a Naga with 2 extra Naga heads stapled on that Scanlan blows up with cock lightening) with the owner of the Greyspine Mines watching they were granted access to investigate the mines and beneath proper.īefore the meeting starts Emperor Uriel asks a messanger to make sure a Lord and Lady Briarwood are made to know about something trivial. Kima had gone missing in the Greyspine Mine beneath Kraghammer. Their mission is to find Lady Kima of Vord, a well known paladin and close friend of Allura Visoren, an arcanist the party is close to. Kraghammer is a pretty reclusive city, wary of non-dwarves, who are disallowed from entering the city except for official business with the Greyspine Quarry, one of the most prolific mines in Exandria (the world), so as they arrive Vox Machina stick out like sore thumbs. The adventures of Vox Machina as we know them start in the city of Kraghammer, a city of dwarves in the northwest area of the country of Taldorie beneath the Cliffkeep Mountains. It was a magic forest where humans and fey lived beside each other, in a way akin to a time before magic and war. It was like a large bowl of circling enchanted steep mountains, that cradled it in a cold and magical serenity.

Patrick had heard so many stories of the Dragon Gate growing up Grand Snow was an ancient, traditional, and isolated village. She had gotten her heartman healing apprenticeship, and a husband, from that magic valley. What inspired Patrick to go to the Westlands, was his eldest sister, Cadence. He could have easily gotten an apprenticeship with Morgan’s friend Amadeus, but wanted to work right away against his paladin coach, Kent Summorhind’s, advice. After graduating school, and unable to be a legal paladin, Patrick had taken post in Grand Snow in the Westlands. Patrick on the other hand, had tangible plans for his future that were away from home. In hindsight, no one could pry her from her coop.

The family thought it odd that Patrick would leave before Artemis. Since Cornelius and Orion are both a bit squishy in terms of health and AC (and both of us adore playing support in combat), we end up stacking buffs and debuffs in a way that lets Varden shred through monsters like paper.

Orion’s player and I are perfectly happy with this arrangement though, despite any stereotypes associated with powergaming min-maxers. Varden’s player prides himself in being a powergaming min-maxer- with Polearm Master and Great Weapon Master alongside the hefty amount of advantage granted by other members of the party and smites for days, Varden absolutely WRECKS ASS when it comes to combat. Varden has a tendency to develop a crush on nearly every woman he meets, but it’s played in a way that’s less “obnoxious horny bastard” and more “well we GOTTA take on this quest if there’s a cute girl who needs help” sort of way. There’s very little we know about his backstory (other than being raised by dwarves), but so far he’s been played as the “straight man” among weirdos, and also a massive simp. Varden Terraforce is a human Oath of Conquest Paladin and our ship’s captain.
